Have you guys seen Black Customizable Nordic Mug at DAVIDsTea?
I bought this mug few years ago and finally got to decorate this!
Chalk art is one of my favorite media to play around with. Applying your art style on dark board gives different result that I love to see!
The design I had in mind was kids running around in the snow. With dark background, it was perfect to draw snowflakes.
While I was surfing to grab link to DAVIDsTEA site, I just found out there's clear glass version of this that makes me want to decorate that too now!
This one is winter theme, maybe the clear one can be summer theme for my next project.
I had the concept ready to draw, but when I opened the box, I didn't
realize how thick the pen size was. Originally I wanted snowflakes to
have intricate designs to make it interesting.
So I started with the lid first to see how flexible do I have with drawing fine line.
Used light grey Prismacolor pencil crayon to sketch it out.
I took the risk and lived with thick line drawing. It didn't look too bad....
Then after decorating, follow the instruction. 1 hour for wait to dry, then bake the mug and the lid in the oven at 200C/400F for 20min. Then let it cool for 2 hours.
One thing to keep in mind is, this white pen is opaque but you can still see the pen stroke. So you might want to go back to do second coat to get full opacity.
The only second coat I did was just to fix the kid's eyes and mouth.
So this is my winter theme mug. I'll be using this every December to enjoy the holiday!
Happy holiday!
